Care & Maintenance
Aside from choosing the type of shutters for the suited application, proper care and maintenance of your Alltone shutters is important to ensure smooth operation and longevity of the products.

Shutters installed indoors will require less cleaning and maintenance than shutters that are installed outdoors and/or close to the sea or pollutive environments.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS
The overall environmental conditions of the plantation shutters determine the frequency you need to clean your shutters.

When not maintained properly, the hardware or metals parts of a shutter can deteriorate quickly when exposed to high humidity or heatwaves, dust and pollution, water, harsh weather or high salinity environments. See General Maintenance and Usage section to help avoid corrosion.

General Maintenance and Usage
Proper Operation

Plantation shutters provide a sturdy and durable option compared with many curtains and blinds, however; they can still be damaged if not treated with care. We recommend gentle opening and closing of both louvers and panels to ensure shutters stay working well for many years to come.

Stiff or Loose Blades

Louves get the most movement in your shutters therefore they can either loosen over time or may be installed at a tension not to your preference. This is an easy and common adjustment you can make at any time during your shutters lifespan. Simply remove the endcap in the middle on each side of your shutter take a Phillips head screwdriver, and tighten or loosen tension screws. You can also make adjustments on the individual louvers on the small screws connecting to the tilt rod.

Avoid Corrosion

Hardware such as magnet catches, hinges, screws, catch plates and tilt rod ect can be maintained with the careful selection and application of lubricants such as silicone spray. We recommend caution in selecting products as many can adversely affect the shutters finish such as; petroleum based lubricants. Spray according to distance from corrosive environments as displayed above.

Sliding and bi-folding shutters

For our sliding and Bi-folding shutter please refer to the above information on how to keep the panels looking fantastic. Please also ensure to keep all tracks and moving parts free from dirt and dust build up to ensure your shutter continues to move easily.
